Diving and snorkeling in Djibouti

The Republic of Djibouti has a coastline of 370 kilometer long from Ras Doumeira the north to the south and Loyada a vast territorial sea area which is characterized by the richness and deversité marine ecosystems it supports.
The funds are intact due to a diving activity unimportant. And funds are preferred to those of the Red Sea.
Come dive from a multitude of fish and corals thousand colors in a sea at the perfect temperature all year round.

Whale Sharks

Up to a height of over 12 meters in the Red Sea, the whale shark is the largest fish. It is easily recognized by its massive silhouette contrasts with its placid evolution. Every year between November and February is to go to the Djibouti coast.

It's is no coincidence that Atlantis Target held its treasure hunt Djibouti this November. Thus, in addition to a great human adventure, participants have the opportunity to meet this giant of the seas.

Swim alongside a whale shark who plays the mouth wide open, filtering water to retain only plankton and small fish is simply magical.

Every year in the Gulf of Tadjoura, whale sharks can be easily observed. Dozens of people gather on same area less than 5 feet deep and close to the coast. These are young people whose size varies from 3 to 8 meters. Adults are rather off at the entrance to the Gulf.

Traditionally, Djibouti did not differ from other sharks. The myth of Jaws the hard tooth, and these animals are feared by ignorance. And if they, the teeth of the land they were scared. Divers, however, flock to this time of year to swim alongside these big animals gray dress dotted with white spots.

Every day, diving clubs take the curious and aware of the richness of this marine life is carefully they approach their craft whale sharks. The briefing for divers is clear: only snorkeling, no sudden movements, a minimum distance of 3 meters to respect and great courtesy between them. The government, understanding of the marine wealth, is currently working on legislation for the protection of whale sharks.

Scientists around the world are addressing them seriously about the presence of whale sharks in these places, and are faithful to these recurring appointments to better understand these animals.

Today, two major hypotheses have been advanced:

  • First argues that the sharks would only pass to Djibouti every year ... but their origins as their destination are unknown to this theory.
  • the second promotes sedentary animals in the area, and outside of these periods of observation surface, sharks remain just off the coast of Djibouti ... but deeper
