Located in Northern part of Ethiopia, Lalibela is another renowned Ethiopia’s historic destination. Placed third in the historic sequence, it is the unofficial 8th wonder of the world. UNESCO has recorded this site as one of the world wonders. It is also a holy land for Ethiopia Orthodox Christians that upon whichever seen devotion is paid. The present day town of Lalibela hosts eleven rocks – hewn churches, which all, apart from their historic significance displays an excelled rock carving skill. A skill that has never been done before and been tried ever after.The art played on the rocack in the 12th Century is still intact and in a great shape. With its breath cutting perfect formation, it is and extensively visited sight. It also is an active pilgrim site, a source of admiration for architects and a big surprise for visitors. Founded of the center of the Lasta mountain chains, Roha, later changed to Lalibela was a site for Zagwe’s dynasty, i.e. the dynasty of the Agew people. It was the decline of the Axumite Kingdom that gave a fries for the Zagwe’s and as a result power shifts Southwards from Axum. Then time followed for an interruption of Solomonic line rule for almost 12 years. And King Lalibella, the third, from last, of the Zagwe dynasty, manages to carve these rock-hewn churches. They took King Lalibela's the whole of his reign and more than 40,000 men power to finish his works. According to local accounts, the works were assisted by angels. Devotion perfection and courage enabled the kingdom and the people to implement the on rock design of the Axumite time to an in rock formations. There are also other built up and cave churches built this period in a given certain distances from the town.
